‘Lo Chali Main’: Internet Cashes in on With Memes after Google Suspends Paytm App from Play Store

India’s digital payment app Paytm has been taken down by Google from the Google Play Store.

The reason cited in a TechCrunch report states that the app has been suspended from the Play Store after Google took cognisance of “repeated violations” by Paytm of Google’s Play Store app policies.

Paytm is one of India’s largest companies by volume of users and transactions, and is also India’s highest-valued startup. Reports indicate that Paytm’s suspension has come in light of the Paytm First sports betting service, which seemingly violated Google’s app policies on unregulated gambling and online casinos.

NHS contact tracing app ‘is unlikely to reduce the spread of Covid-19’

The new NHS Test and Trace app won’t work unless the vast majority of the country installs it and even then social distancing will still be required, a new study claims.

The NHS app launched in the Isle of Wight last week as a pilot scheme, with users urged to scan barcodes when they go out to create a ‘virtual diary’ of movements.

This is the second trial on the island by NHS following its disastrous first attempt, which was abandoned in June.

A new study by University College London found that these types of tracking apps only work if the vast majority of a population install and actively use them.

By reviewing 15 earlier scientific studies into the use of the apps, the team found that even if 80 per cent of a population install them other public health restrictions would still be needed to slow the spread of

  • President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters he would take action to ban popular app TikTok as early as Saturday.

  • While some TikTok creators encouraged their fans to follow them on their other social media accounts, others made memes or plans to set up a virtual private network so they could still use the app after a ban.

  • A TikTok spokesperson thanked users for their support in a video statement Saturday, and said the app is “here for the long run.”

When Starbucks was looking to boost its digital traffic in China to help sales recover from store closures prompted by the coronavirus pandemic, it turned to Alipay.

The Chinese mobile app with 900 million users scattered across the nation integrated a pre-order and pickup feature for Starbucks into its popular app last month, a service that was previously only available on Starbucks’ own mainland mobile app. The Seattle-headquartered chain of coffeehouses said on July 28 that it sees its China sales substantially recovering by the end of September, boosted by such digital initiatives.

Ant Group, the operator of Alipay, is preparing an initial public offering … Read More

Elrond’s mainnet has successfully launched, ushering in an era of high-speed dApps and scalable crypto payment technology. The blockchain’s developers have wasted no time in refining components of Elrond’s architecture, starting with an enhanced token model. Elrond has also announced details of the first app to go live on its mainnet, available on mobile devices.
